Parallel import, defined as the circulation of genuine products through unauthorized channels not approved by the intellectual property rights holder, has taken on unprecedented significance in the Russian economy since February 2022. The sanctions imposed by the EU, the U.S., the UK, and the G7 in response to the invasion of Ukraine have led to a radical reconfiguration of international supply chains prompting Russia to legalize parallel trade through Government Decree No. 506 of April 2022. This measure has generated an entirely new commercial ecosystem, characterized by specific institutional language, original communication strategies, and alternative logistics networks. This thesis aims to analyze this phenomenon from a dual perspective: economic-legal and linguistic-communicative. Adopting critical discourse analysis as the primary methodological framework, supplemented by corpus linguistics tools, the research examines a corpus of institutional texts, economic press articles, corporate presentations, and posts from specialized Telegram channels, collected between April 2022 and December 2024. Through a comparative analysis with other historical and geopolitical contexts, including the cases of Iran, Belarus, and Venezuela, this thesis develops an original interpretative framework known as the “economics of sanctions”, aimed at describing the adaptive mechanisms of trade systems under external pressure. Particular attention is devoted to the neologisms that have emerged in Russian discourse (“friendly countries", “hostile countries”, “parallel import" vs. “gray import”), to the euphemistic strategies of institutional discourse, and to B2B communication in the automotive and electronics sectors. The thesis concludes with an analysis of the implications for Italian companies, offering an original contribution in the form of a glossary of trade under sanctions, a practical tool for researchers, legal professionals, and international trade specialists.

Abstract
The thesis concludes with an analysis of the implications for Italian companies, offering an original contribution in the form of a glossary of trade under sanctions, a practical tool for researchers, legal professionals, and international trade specialists.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
