The internationalisation of higher education has firmly embedded Europe as a key pole for student mobility at world level, with Erasmus+ undoubtedly being a cornerstone in this process of engaging with the other. This thesis will explore the international students’ learning experiences in European universities, focusing on their academic, cultural and social integration. Utilizing mixed methods that combine quantitative survey data analysis with qualitative interview data, the study finds the major obstacles students face ranging from language reasons (language barriers, cultural adjustment) and personal reasons (homesickness) to conflicting teaching learning expectations. Also, it highlights the opportunities given to students in Europe’s multicultural educational environment especially through programmes like ERASMUS+ Finding indicates that while students initially struggle in new environment but with the right kind of support from educational institutions, college students and intercultural learning initiatives, it significantly enhances their integration, well-being and makes the overall experience better. The research concludes by proposing targeted recommendations for universities and policymakers to strengthen student support systems, promote inclusive practices, and advance the broader objectives of internationalisation in European higher education.
