SAI S.p.A. – Hydraulic Motors is an Italian company based in Modena characterised by a vast international web of collaborators. One of the international branches has seat in China, more specifically in the city of Shanghai. The collaboration and development with the People’s Republic of China represents a big opportunity for the company, which has the objective of increasing their synergy with the Chinese market. During my time as an intern for two months at SAI Hydraulic Motors I have carried out this project of analysis in order to develop a strategy of market penetration. The products that have been the subjects of this research are planetary gearboxes; the study will then be accompanied by a second, smaller research regarding axial flux motors. Both of them will be analysed on the Chinese market, starting from an analysis of pre-existent Chinese suppliers. Afterwards, the study will take on a more qualitative approach, rather than a quantitative one. Thanks to the information shared by the companies, it will be possible to have a more realistic insight into the current situation of planetary gearboxes and axial flux motors in China. As a matter of fact, the research question of this dissertation is: “how does a foreign company enter the Chinese market of planetary gearboxes?”. In order to answer this question, multiple aspects have been taken into consideration, such as more technical parameters like torque, power and speed. Additionally, great importance was laid to the analysis of the websites and digital spaces of the companies that have been identified as potential competitors. These enterprises were also contacted, in order to achieve a better understanding of the current, actual situation of the market. The languages used in the research have been both English and Mandarin Chinese, while the Italian language was used in the workplace among colleagues and in corporate communication. By the end of this study, it will be possible to identify the opportunities for SAI, as well as the obstacles and difficulties that may be met when entering China’s mechanical engineering market. All of this will then be summarised in a final business case customised to SAI S.p.A. – Hydraulic Motors.
SAI S.p.A. – Hydraulic Motors è un’azienda italiana di Modena caratterizzata da un’ampia rete internazionale. Una delle sedi all’estero si trova in Cina, più nello specifico nella città di Shanghai. La collaborazione e lo sviluppo con la Repubblica Popolare Cinese rappresenta una grande opportunità per l’azienda, che ha come obbiettivo ampliare la sinergia con il mercato cinese. Nel mio percorso da tirocinante per due mesi presso SAI Hydraulic Motors ho sviluppato questo progetto di analisi per una strategia di penetrazione di mercato. I prodotti oggetto di tale ricerca sono i riduttori epicicloidali; questo studio verrà poi accompagnato in parte da una seconda, minore ricerca nell’ambito dei motori a flusso assiale. Entrambi i prodotti verranno analizzati all’interno del mercato cinese, partendo da un’analisi dei fornitori cinesi già presenti sul mercato. Successivamente, lo studio si sposterà verso un’analisi più qualitativa che quantitativa, basandosi sul contatto diretto con gli attori competitivi individuati nelle fasi precedenti. Grazie alle informazioni condivise dalle aziende, sarà possibile ritrarre un quadro più realistico della situazione attuale del mercato dei riduttori epicicloidali e dei motori a flusso assiale in Cina. Infatti, la domanda di ricerca di questa tesi è: “come fa un’azienda straniera ad entrare nel mercato cinese dei riduttori epicicloidali?”. Per rispondere a questa domanda sono stati presi in considerazione diversi aspetti; ad esempio, parametri più tecnici come la coppia, la potenza e la velocità. Inoltre, una grande importanza è stata data all’analisi dei siti web e degli spazi digitali delle aziende che sono state individuate come potenziali aziende rivali. Esse sono anche state contattate con l’obbiettivo di raggiungere una migliore conoscenza della vera e attuale situazione del mercato. Le lingue che sono state utilizzate sono sia l’inglese che il cinese mandarino, mentre l’italiano è stato usato nel posto di lavoro tra colleghi e nella comunicazione aziendale. Al termine di questo studio, sarà possibile identificare le opportunità per SAI, così come anche gli scogli e le difficoltà che si potrebbero incontrare nell’entrata sul mercato metalmeccanico della Cina. Tutto ciò sarà poi riassunto in un business case finale personalizzato per SAI S.p.A. – Hydraulic Motors.
