This thesis analyzes the transition path from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA, with particular focus on cloud deployment and, specifically, on the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition offering. The objective is twofold: on the one hand, to describe the evolution of ERP systems and SAP from a technological and functional perspective; on the other hand, to provide an applied analysis of the end-to-end processes of the Materials Management (MM) and Production Planning (PP) modules, highlighting their integration logic, the core elements of the data model, and the main differences compared to legacy systems. The study also presents an infrastructural overview of cloud ERP, clarifying the differences between on-premise, Private Cloud, and Public Cloud deployments in terms of responsibility allocation (shared responsibility model), standardization, extensibility strategies, and lifecycle management (releases and upgrades). The central part of the thesis includes an anonymized company case study related to a migration project to SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud carried out through manual data uploads using XML files: the customer completes the migration templates, which are then validated, corrected, and reviewed by the consulting team prior to system loading and testing cycles. The thesis concludes with an assessment of the benefits and limitations of the Public Cloud approach, with particular attention to data governance, change management, and the long-term sustainability of the solution, considering aspects such as best practices, clean core principles, and platform-based extensions.
