This paper explores the origins, methodologies, and objectives of CLIL, a teaching method that concurrently combines language and content. The analysis intends to present an updated view of CLIL practices, expanding upon the teaching of languages in primary education. Furthermore, CLIL teaching is an engaging method for students, motivating them to produce functional language that is thematically integrated with diverse subjects. The first chapter presents the genesis and development of CLIL in the European educational landscape, its founding methodological characteristics and the main evaluation models. It then delineates the Italian regulatory structure for CLIL, emphasizing its advantages and noting the challenges it faces during its implementation within the national educational system. The second chapter analyses CLIL practices in primary schools, in Italy and Europe, based on the evidence provided by the Eurydice reports and concludes with a reflection on the role of the CLIL teacher. Chapter three focuses on the implementation of a CLIL unit carried out by the graduate student in a primary school located in the province of Reggio Emilia. The activities ended with students designing creative works using recycled materials, a practical demonstration of interdisciplinary learning that synthesizes environmental consciousness and linguistic and cognitive abilities. The CLIL unit's conclusion involved students in crafting creative works using recycled materials, embodying an integrated approach that mixes ecological consciousness with linguistic and cognitive abilities. Final considerations and future perspectives regarding CLIL are presented in the paper's conclusion.
What a waste of art! Un itinerario CLIL nella scuola primaria.
